Karen Moriyama Art Piece Dress
The "white chrysanthemum" is the symbol of this 2013 Autumn/Winter collection. When worn, the fabric and the body are drawn together, creating a slight "distortion" in the fabric. Quietly blooming in this distortion are "tebana" chrysanthemum flowers carved from Sugihara paper, a traditional craft of Hyogo. The flowers grow from the chest and spread all over the body, eventually running down the train of the skirt and spreading out into the outside world. The skirt portion is produced using an "opal processing" technique that partially melts away the fabric, creating the effect of painting. The body itself emerges through the transparent fabric, gently illuminating the "human presence" and "connection" that lie beyond the distortion. A work filled with the designer's wishes. Only one piece is available for sale.
